There are few human inventions that can claim the same level of influence that writing and the written word have had on the human experience, particularly my human experience. Through writing, I feel a connection to our collective experience. This connection stems directly from the fact that there are simply no new stories, not at their core. We’ve been happily re-telling our stories on these same experiences for longer than we can collectively remember. We simply re-write them in the parlance of the day with the perspective of our individual experience. Because of this, if we want, we can explore these changing perspectives simply by picking up a book! That makes writing a serious human endeavour, an important human endeavour. It is an endeavour that should be approached both seriously and irreverently. Doing otherwise would be dishonest to our very nature and our stories.
