This is not who we are…

This is not who we are…

Random statue, Dublin, Ireland

This is not a news story…
This is not a political agenda…
This is not a personal vendetta…

This is not the moment for hate…
This is not the time for apathy,
or badly laid schemes
catering to one group’s ideology…

This is not an isolated cause, to be placed in a box that can be “finished”…
There is no check list that will never have to be revisited…
This is not an issue that goes away just because we falsely decide that we can overcome our stupidities
– genetic, learned and sadly inherent
– without the individual work required to do so…

This is a moment to find a way of life…
One in which we accept who and what we are…
as well as what we are capable of
and what we shouldn’t do…

We cannot separate ourselves from the pain of living,
It gives us a barometer for the good days…
We cannot ignore the rage that glows bright and bold,
Because it inspires us to do bad things,
For it also inspires greatness…
We cannot accept that “vanilla” is the only way to achieve harmony when we know there is no such thing as one size fits all…

No…this is not who we are,
but it is the reflection of our absolute laziness…
Is this really going to be what we leave to posterity?
