This movie is astonishing in both its simplicity and its complexity. It is bold in its choices, yet trusts its audience completely to follow where it must. The story itself is nothing new, yet when I watched it (twice within 2 days) I found myself feeling as though I’d never seen this type of story before. The performances are precise, even from the children and the setting is as much a character in the film as the people. Although the movie is subtitled in the version I watched, I have no doubt that this movie would be easily understood without.
I recommend this one to everyone from child to adult. You may not all love it as I have, but its commentary is beautifully, subtly, and deftly presented; and for that, it deserves a viewing.
